Milad Arzani, MS
Milad is an Iranian researcher who earned his master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tehran in 2021. He is currently a 4th year PhD candidate in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Iowa, where his doctoral research has evolved from the biofabrication and tissue engineering of silk-based biomaterials to the study of cerebrovascular disease. Drawing on his background in mechanics and biomaterials, he now combines mechanical testing with imaging-based methods to characterize the microstructure, biomechanical properties, and radiological appearance of blood clots associated with acute ischemic stroke. In collaboration with Dr. Santiago Ortega-Gutiérrez and Professor Suresh M. L. Raghavan, Milad investigates how these clot characteristics can inform the development and evaluation of thrombectomy devices and thrombolytic drugs, with the broader goal of advancing clinically driven technologies and treatment strategies that improve outcomes for patients with stroke.
