Brian Smith, PhD
Dr. Brian J. Smith is a professor in the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Iowa, where he brings over two decades of experience in statistical methods for biomedical research. He serves as Director of the Biostatistics Core at the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center and has been a lead biostatistician for the Iowa/Mayo Lymphoma SPORE, UI Quantitative Imaging Network, and program project to study pharmacologic ascorbate treatment for cancer. His work supports cancer research across preclinical, clinical, and population science domains.
Dr. Smith earned his PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Iowa, preceded by an MS in Mathematical Statistics from the University of Texas and a BA in Mathematics from Saint Louis University. His expertise includes Bayesian methods, spatial statistics, quantitative medical imaging, and predictive modeling. He leads a multidisciplinary team that supports clinical trial design, epidemiologic studies, and advanced imaging analysis.
