Elena Garrido, MD, MHA, PhD
Dr. Elena Garrido is a physician-scientist specializing in neuroanesthesia and obstetric anesthesia. Her clinical focus lies in the perioperative care of patients undergoing complex neurosurgical and obstetric procedures. She earned her MD from Valencia University, a PhD in Medicine from Alcala University, and a Master’s in Healthcare Management from Complutense University, all in Spain.
She trained one year in Family Medicine and completed the Anesthesiology Residency at Hospital Ramon y Cajal in Madrid, before completing dual postdoctoral fellowships in Neurosciences Critical Care and Neuroanesthesia at The Ohio State University Hospital. Her work bridges clinical practice and research in neurovascular physiology and perioperative brain health.
Dr. Garrido’s research interests include anesthesia techniques for endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke, the impact of perioperative hypotension on postoperative cognitive decline in elderly spine surgery patients, and the prevalence of subclinical seizures in patients with unexplained altered mental status. She also contributes to the SEGA trial, a randomized study comparing sedation versus general anesthesia in stroke intervention.
